Have you ever wanted to study the Yoga Sutras, but didn’t know where to begin?

The Yoga Sutras are an ancient scriptural text comprising 196 verses and serve as a practitioner’s guide to unearthing spiritual wisdom and self-realization through yoga. The 196 sutras (“threads” or “discourses”) are separated into four padas (chapters): Samadhi, Sadhana, Vibhuti, and Kaivalya and it is estimated that they were codified between 200BCE and 500BCE.

At its core, the Yoga Sutras act as a seeker’s road map to traverse the spiritual unknown by providing practical instruction and universal truths. Yoga holds rich, mystical roots in history and yet the experience of yoga has no history at all. It has no beginning and no end; it was never born and will never die. Instead, yoga is ignited anew within each one of us, as if for the first time, practice by practice, moment by moment.

In this discussion-based study course, we will read and meet monthly to decipher and contemplate the origin texts. We will learn how to synthesize knowledge and experiential practice, giving way for the transformative alchemy of yoga to further unfold.

The translation we will be reading in this course will be the Yoga Sutras of Patanjali as translated by Sri Swami Satchidananda.
